Pre-Holi Skin and Hair Care Tips for a Fun-filled Celebration

Pre-Holi Skin and Hair Care Tips for a Fun-filled Celebration

Holi is the most vibrant, cheerful, and jovial festival not only in the Indian subcontinent but also all around the globe. Earlier, Holi was all about dry powder, gulals (flower colors), and loads of buckets of water. But now synthetic colors which are full of lead, chromium, arsenic and many other toxins are used on a wide scale. They can damage your skin, hair, eyes and cause even more severe effects like allergies, redness, irritation and respiratory problems. So, before you head out for Holi this year, here are a few tips that will help you celebrate without any stress.

Pre-Holi Skincare

Consider Skin Type: It's a must to know your skin type, whether it's oily, dry, normal or sensitive. Oily skin is like a natural shield with its own protective layer, while dry skin needs a bit more tender care. Steer clear of strong active ingredients like glycolic acid or retinol for at least a week. Instead get yourself facial oils made up with ceramides or glycerin as these provide ample hydration for dry skin.

We recommend:- For Dry Skin-  COSRX Comfort Ceramide Cream

Lightweight moisturizer that soothes and heals irritated skin, while balancing and protecting the skin barrier.

For Oily Skin-  Minimalist 10% Vitamin B5 Oil Free Moisturizer

Hydrates oily skin, speeds healing, optimizes vitality, clean formulation, suits combination, acne-prone skin.

Moisturize Adequately: Protecting and moisturizing your skin before Holi requires the addition of facial oil and body oil to your pre-Holi skincare. Use face oil enriched with ceramides or glycerin to get a great deep hydration and nourishment of dry skin. Body oil, a lightweight option, is suitable for retaining the skin moist and providing a protective shield based on the absence of color chemicals.

We recommend:- Facial Oil-  Earth Rhythm Rosehip Seed Facial Oil

Hydrate, shield, and nourish. Ensure a radiant and resilient pre-celebration glow.

Body Oil-  Juicy Chemistry 100% Organic Rosehip Cold Pressed Carrier Oil

Cold-pressed Rosehip oil shields skin from synthetic Holi colors, facilitating effortless removal post-celebration.

Avoid Skin Treatments: Avoid facial, bleach, peel, wax or threading for a few days before Holi to avoid skin redness. To lower your skin's susceptibility to any negative reactions, opt for a gentle skincare routine.

Protect Your Nails: Nail care is also vital besides skin and hair. Rub the baby oil on your nails to curb the stubborn color stains.

Use Organic Colors: Choose organic colors to lower the risk of irritation and scratching. These colors have a softer effect on the skin and can be easily washed off.

Sunscreen Protection: Don't forget to put on sunscreen. Make sure to apply a broad spectrum sunscreen all over your body as it will protect from UV rays injury. Consider using oral sunscreen with Glutathione besides the usual sunscreen for added protection.

We recommend:- Deconstruct Sunscreen Lotion - SPF 55+ and PA ++++

Water-resistant broad-spectrum formula, lightweight texture, no white cast. Shields from UVA/UVB rays.

For Sensitive Skin: If your sensitive skin is apprehensive of the after effects of colors, maybe you should skip the color war this time. In case you really don’t want to feel left out of the vibrant celebration, keep a secret weapon, anti-allergen, calamine lotion with you.

Choose Appropriate Clothing: Choose your Holi outfit as carefully as you would select your party superhero dress. Light, breezy clothes with long sleeves and pants will serve as a great armor, protecting you from color shocks. Stylish and skin-friendly – you can't go wrong with it!

Pre-Holi Hair Care

Trim Split Ends: Prior to the Holi festivity, you would do well to care for your hair by cutting those stubborn split ends. It is a bit like giving your hair the fresh start it deserves, making sure that it never looks out of place during happy celebrations.

Skip Shampoo: Give the shampoo a break for a day before Holi. This allows your hair to soak in its natural oils and act as a protection layer.

Avoid Chemical Treatments: If you've recently treated your hair to some chemical treatment like rebonding or coloring, it is best to skip the colorful celebration. The chemical overload has a high risk of potentially damaging consequences for your hair.

Oil Massage: This obviously is the most important part. Give your hair a proper oil massage for about an hour before you go out to play Holi. It's kind of like a hair spa treatment, nourishing and conditioning it to withstand the forthcoming color assault.

We recommend:- Hair Oil- Kaaya Natural Onion Hair Oil

Onion and Black Seed infused with Coconut Oil. Boosts circulation, strengthens follicles, protects from damage.

Protective Hairstyles: Cover your hair with a bun or a bandana. This easy-to-do trick helps the hair’s colors to not penetrate into the strands, allowing them to remain clean and non-colored.

Use Leave-in Products: Before stepping into vivid colors, use hair serum or conditioner that will help to protect your hair. Much in the same way that shielding your hair from harmful chemicals that color your hair, it will be soft and nice to manage throughout the celebration.

We recommend:- Leave in Serum- Raw Beauty Wellness Satin Leave In Hair Serum

Adds shine, smoothness, and volume. Protects from pollution and harmful chemicals of holi colors.

Sensitive Scalp Care: Use tea tree oil if you have sensitive skin on the scalp. It's a herbal remedy which gives relaxation to irritation and does not lead to any allergic reactions during the time of Holi festivities.

Curly Hair Protection: For all our awesome curly-haired friends- don't forget to pre- apply curl saving oils before Holi. This helps them protect against color damage that could have led to scruffiness and unwanted frizz.

We recommend:- Curl Oil- Fix My Curls Scalp & Strands Elixir Hair Oil

Protects from heat damage, breakage. A lightweight oil that also hydrates and is rich in Retinol, Golden Seaweed, Omega 3.
