Vanity Blog: DIY Hair Mask: Here’s our Homemade Secret to Fabulous Hair

Hair makes all the difference and we can’t agree more. Bad hair days are a curse and no one knows it better than women who have had them on a special or important event. Change in seasons may bring conflict between your efforts and hair results but with some secret DIY hair Mask pack recipes, we assure you luscious hair and a whole lot of compliments.

1. Moisture the frizz away

What you’ll need: 2 teaspoons olive oil, 2 tablespoons yogurt and an egg.

Mix all the ingredients together properly and apply, starting from the roots to the end. Leave it on for half an hour and rinse. You can use a mild shampoo if needed.

How does it help? The moisturising concoction and goodness of oil, yogurt and egg will nourish the hair and lock in the nutrients leaving the hair moisturised and de-frizzed.

2. Cleanse the buildup

What you’ll need: 1 teaspoon sea salt, 1 teaspoon earthen clay, 1 teaspoon olive oil and 2 teaspoons lemon juice.

Mix and stir well to form a slightly runny paste. Apply the mixture only onto your scalp and let it sit for 2 minutes. Scrub it gently for a few minutes and rinse it off. Make sure you do not force scrub the mixture on the scalp to avoid any irritation and hair fall.

How does it help? The cleansing and anti-bacterial properties in earthen clay, sea salt and lemon juice will melt away the rigid build up formed from shampooing and using other products while olive oil will balance the pH level of the scalp, leaving it fresh and soft. This hair pack is great for people who use dry shampoos, styling products like gels, matte paste and sprays often.

3. Longest and strongest

What you’ll need: An egg, 1 tablespoon coconut oil and 1 tablespoon Matcha green tea powder.

Whisk the egg and add coconut oil and green tea powder to the liquid. The paste will be glue like thick and green in colour. Apply it liberally on the scalp and length. Cover your hair with a shower cap to avoid any drip-trip. Leave it on for 30 minutes and shampoo as usual.

How does it help? The mixture is great as Matcha green tea is known for its antioxidant and stimulating properties. The ingredients form a paste that nourishes the hair without causing any build up. It speeds up hair growth, adds shine and also makes hair manageable.

4. Reverse the damage

What you’ll need: 1 ripe banana, 1 tablespoon yogurt, 2 teaspoons honey and 2 teaspoons almond/coconut oil.

Mash the ripe banana in a bowl, add yogurt, honey and an oil of your choice to it. Make sure the mixture is smooth and not lumpy. Apply generously on the scalp and strands. Leave the mask on for 20 minutes and shampoo as usual.

How does it help? Every ingredient in the hair mask softens, nourishes and strengthens hair from within. As honey and coconut oil hydrates and locks in the moisture, bananas repair the damaged hair follicles and improve the hair texture. This hair mask is also great for people who have dry and dull hair as it adds lustre and sheen to the strands instantly.

Can’t contain your excitement to have lustrous and shiny hair back? Get stirring and rinsing!
