Beauty Trends of 2023

With a focus on sustainable living more than ever, we should now come to terms with calling clean beauty not just a trend, instead an altogether new and fully-fledged kind of a lifestyle. We have invariably seen that clean beauty is something that people are willing to embrace, be it sans the pandemic of after it. Apart from the increased consumption in clean beauty products, there is also an infinite rise in the public awareness of self care and wellness products.

Last year, we saw a rise in trends like the use of probiotics in skincare, blue-light protection, sustainable beauty, skinmalism, and so on and so forth. Although all these trends have been ruling the beauty space since 2021, yet they will still be stepping in the new year continue

The year 2023 comes up with a handful of beauty trends, some of which will continue from the last year, and some new ones which are to die for! Let us look at some of the beauty trends for 2023.

Skincare Ingredients that will trend in 2023

Over the course of the pandemic, the word searches for “skincare” went up by 143%* and so for other skin care ingredients. People finally got the grip on the right pronunciation of words like, Hyaluronic Acid, Salicylic Acid and AHAs and BHAs found their way into everyones’ vanities. Few skincare ingredients like Vitamin C, Hyaluronic Acid, Salicylic Acid, Ceramides, Probiotics and Bakuchiol came into major play in the last two years. For 2023, one of the ingredients which is going to trend, is something which we already have been using— Niacinamide!

  • Niacinamide
  • Niacinamide is also known as Vitamin B3 and it is finally getting all the love and attention it deserves in the B-town! It comes under the skin-brightening category of actives and does what it promises. It reduces blemishes and dark spots giving your skin the glow it deserves. Niacinamide is ultra gentle and replenishing, it can help strengthen our skin barrier while making our skin healthier and plumper.

  • Snail Mucin
  • The skincare industry has seen a major spike in the demand for products infused with snail mucin. The snail mucin industry is currently estimated to be around $4 billion and is only getting bigger & better. And why shouldn't it be, it improves collagen production,  reduces pigmentation, hydrates & cools down the skin, increases skin cell turnover, and has anti-ageing properties as well.

    Makeup trends for 2023

Makeup has been an integral part of women's daily lives since we can remember. Yes, skincare products have taken the front seat in every individual’s vanity lately, but the magic of maquillage can be replaced  by none other. Makeup enables us to highlight our best facial features, to look our best and gives a confidence that probably no thing can give, ever!

Makeup has evolved in a way where we have come from using just powders to now a base primer, foundation, concealer, powder, contour, blush, highlighter, lipstick, eye makeup, the list is endless. If we look at the trends of this year, we have Statement Blush, Glossy Lips & Liners amongst others. But what’s in store for next year? Read on to find out the makeup trends ready to roll in 2023:

  • Embellished eye makeup
  • Just like this year had Drama Eyes conquered influencers and millennials all over, 2023 also makes way for some jeweled eye makeup. Think all that you can— glitter, metallics, embellishments, sequins on the corner of the eyes, eyebrows or even all the way up till your forehead, embellishment is the way to do it!

    • Timeless, Natural/Minimal Makeup

Barely there foundation is one the trend that has been garnering a lot of attention since the past year. This year, this trend has moved up a notch by focussing mainly on skincare— characterized by hydrated skin, slicked back hair, and very minimal makeup.

  • Tech-infused Makeup
  • According to a trend forecasting website, Trendalytics, a “tech-infused palette” including holographic finishes with the touch of turquoise, silver, and virtual purple is supposed to take the beauty and makeup industry by storm.

  • Brow Lifting

    Beauty Trends in 2023

    • Eco-Friendly Packaging
Sustainable brands have been trying to use plastic-free packaging more than ever now that includes elements like paper tapes instead of plastic ones, green honeycomb wrap instead of bubble wrap, shredded paper instead of plastic air pillows, cardboard corrugated boxes, recyclable plastic bottles, etc. A recent study found that 51 % of supply chain professionals expect the circular economy to expand in popularity in the next two years, as a result of the pandemic. Simply put, sustainable packaging will reduce the environmental carbon footprint in its due time.
    • Conscious Beauty

“The growth in clean and sustainable products has outpaced total beauty,” said Leila Rochet, chief inspiration officer of Cosmetics Inspiration and Creation, a forecasting consultancy based in Paris. “We see that consumers are more and more looking for better-for-me products, but also better for the environment.” Conscious Beauty is all about making you and the planet look good. It encompasses everything ranging from clean beauty, green beauty, sustainable beauty, natural, organic, non-toxic, toxin-free, vegan and cruelty free under its umbrella. Today’s consumer is well-informed and wants to make substantial efforts towards the greater good. More and more people are getting aware of the damage toxic chemicals can have on their skin plus on the environment and hence the shift in the buying patterns. This current shift in the consumer's model is being called ‘Conscious Consumerism’, and is consistently on the uptrend.

Clean Beauty is definitely on the rise. There is no denying that our environment is facing consequences, which cannot be undone, but can be altered henceforward. We, as a part of the (clean) beauty industry, are still learning, growing as mindful beings and trying to improve slowly, but surely. Since the bigger brands are yet to adapt to conscious means, the beauty industry becoming sustainable is a little outlying an idea to come into existence. Trends might come and go but clean beauty stays.
